Don’t let a virus tell you how to live your life!

we are only as strong as we are united, as weak as divided.

-J.K. Rowling

A microorganism as minute as a virus is winning the war against the most complex species on earth today, the Modern Man. Makes you wonder what may be the drivers of that? Among many other inefficiencies, I would like to focus on the role that the complex species is playing.

While the virus stands united against us, we are more divided than ever. That’s the simple reason for what may explain how our complex understandings are failing as opposed to the simple survival instinct algorithm of the virus community. As we find ourselves in the middle of a scarcity of plasma, ICUs, hospital beds and oxygen, it sure looks like that the virus is doing a good job at bringing us down to our knees. Some of the credit for this damage goes to the civic irresponsibility that we have performed time and again.

Just to point out a few. The unending gatherings, the fake COVID test reports, the indifference to safety and social distancing precautions are just some cases to exemplify our pure ignorance towards the societies’ cumulative needs. Why is that, as soon as fear strikes, we go from “pehle aap” [you first] to “pehle main” [me first]? While what may sound like an uninteresting idea is to understand that as societies, now we need to put our common intelligence to strategise against the giant army of invisible soldiers.

The proposal may sound too good to be true, but has a very simple execution with one huge technicality. It needs us to behave responsibly and not just in ways the government has been guiding/misguiding us, but from the common intelligence of survival that is engraved in you on the cellular level. The technicality to remember here is that this fight of survival is not against the members of your own species but against the virus.

Lastly, it goes without saying that we need to be giving and forgiving in such times. After all, the only thing that separates us from the virus is our emotional intellect. Let’s apply all sorts of intellects at our disposal and move onto a post-COVID era which is long due. Take charge and don’t let a virus tell you how to live your life!
